At Scality, We Believe in Diversity

Diversity is part of our strength, and those of us here at Scality are of all ages and all backgrounds. We come from different cultures (195 of us from 23 nationalities), faiths, and educational backgrounds. We believe that our diversity is the key to challenging ourselves and boosting creativity within our teams.

As a result, one of our five values at Scality is: “WE ARE RESPECTFUL AND ETHICAL.”

It follows then that Scality strongly supports diversity and social responsibility outside the office, too. A couple of examples:

  • With our social responsibility program launched two years ago, Scality offers each employee the chance to support a charity or non-profit of his choice with a donation, which is then matched by the company. Up to now we’ve  contributed to many organizations chosen by our employees.
  • In 2017 Scality backed a team of 14 Scality runners participating in the very challenging Course du Coeur (750km run and bike from Paris to Bourg Saint Maurice in the Alps). Our team raised funds for the Laurette Fugain association, described below.

This year, with the idea of bringing our values to our customers and partners, we’ve decided that, rather than just send the usual winter holiday e-cards, we wanted to engage our stakeholders on the topic of ethics and diversity. To do so, we asked them to help us decide how to divide up a $10,000 donation among 3 charities selected by our employees in 2017.  Not only were they chosen for their professionalism and engagement, but because they also demonstrate the core values that we also promote — respect, caring for others, keeping an open mind, and embracing diversity.

We also invited our contacts to to add donations of their own.

The selection took place on our new career page on diversity and the campaign has been widely promoted on social media. The three organizations chosen are:

Laurette Fugain www.laurettefugain.org

The Laurette Fugain association’s main objective is to fight leukemia. In 2017, Scality chose to support this association while taking part in the Course du Coeur, a running and cycling relay race from Paris to the French Alps. The idea originally came from the desire of Scality runners to show their solidarity with another employee upon her return from a 6-month fight against a rare form of leukemia and to send a clear message about Scality’s commitment towards organ donation.

The association acts on three very distinct levels: – Financial support of medical research project – Raising awareness on organ donation as a living person – Support to patients and their families during and after their hospitalization.

Save the Children www.savethechildren.org

Save the Children is an international organization that promotes children’s rights, provides relief and helps support children in developing countries. Scality, throughout its Social Responsibility program allows each employee to ask the company to match their own donations to foundations or associations or to propose collective initiatives for causes they wish to support. Save the Children was one of many organizations Scality employees chose to support in 2017. Save the Children’s main mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treat children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.

Wildlife Conservation Network https://wildnet.org

At Scality, we believe that taking care of human diversity starts by protecting the environment in which we live, and biodiversity is a strong element of that belief. The impacts of species migration, species extinction and global warming on the human population are plentiful and will only become greater with the ever-increasing human population on the planet. Scality employees are concerned by this and have chosen to support the Wildlife Conservation Network to help protect our resources. WCN’s main actions and objectives are to protect endangered species and preserve their natural habitats by supporting entrepreneurial conservationists who pursue innovative strategies for people and wildlife to co-exist and thrive.

We are proud of this initiative, which has given us the opportunity to bring our values to our customers and partners, to highlight our team spirit, and to bring new contacts and donors to our chosen Foundations.
