Scality’s leaders have created Le Club to recognize and reward team members selected each year for their exceptional contribution to the company.
Together with this acknowledgment, Le Club members are also offered the opportunity of taking a trip together, to rest and enjoy the Scality spirit outside the workplace. For the year 2017, 20 employees have been chosen. Scality will publish a profile of a different team member every other week.
Meet Alexandre Merle
When he was at high school, Alexandre Merle never got his baccalauréat. For some people, this could have been a real obstacle to the rest of their career, but for Alexandre it wasn’t like that at all. Passionate about computer science since he was really young and self taught, Alexandre decided to take evening classes and then he managed to get into the 42 school, a famous computer programming school in Paris. After that, at only 23, he was recruited by Scality, where he has been for more than a year now.
Alexandre is part of Iron Man, a team of developers creating innovative products. This role really suits Alexandre who has an inquisitive nature. “I like learning new things and finding solutions to complicated problems. I also love to exchange ideas with my colleagues. I never hesitate to suggest an idea, even if it doesn’t lead anywhere. You can learn a lot from your mistakes,” he confides.
A hard worker, persistent and always on the look out for improvement, Alexandre never stops until he has completed a task or managed to fix a problem. For instance, when there was a serious bug in a Scality software component that he didn’t know well, Alexandre didn’t hesitate to immerse himself in the code until he came up with a solution. Or when there were issues at a US client, he worked day and night to find the cause of the problem and to repair it.
His determination goes so far that Alexandre never misses an opportunity to help his co-workers, whatever the technical matter is. “Alexandre could content himself to do his job only, but he is always willing to share his knowledge with people so that they can move forward. More than his own success, he is focused on the success of the whole team,” reveals one of his colleagues.
This quality was what his colleagues felt would earn him a spot in Le Club. “I really appreciate this recognition from my peers, it shows me that all the hard work and the energy I put into my job has served a higher purpose,” he says.
Alexandre’s team spirit goes even beyond work. He loves going out and having fun with his colleagues. As a member of Le Club, he took a trip to Canada with the other prize winners, and he really enjoyed getting to know everybody, even those whom he doesn’t work with regularly.
Despite his success, Alexandre has stayed modest and really grateful. For Alexandre, who is discrete and quite shy, coming to Scality was mind opening. He met passionate people like himself to interact with and he has had the opportunity to travel several times, notably to the US. “A few years ago, I couldn’t have imagined having a job as cool as the one I have today. I feel really happy and I want to continue doing what I love most : sharing ideas with people and creating great products together,” he concludes.
