Scality’s leaders have created Le Club in order to recognize and reward team members selected each year for their exceptional contribution to the company.
Together with this acknowledgment, Le Club members are also offered the opportunity of taking a trip together, to rest and enjoy the Scality spirit outside the workplace.
For the year 2016, 16 employees have been chosen. Scality will publish a portrait of different team member once a week.
JOHN GORSKI
A Man of Experience
55 years old – Works at Scality Washington
“Over the years I’ve built a special relationship with my customers. They have learned to trust me because they know that the products I offer will help them to solve their problems.” John Gorski inspires deep respect from all who know him. As a sales engineer at Scality, he is both conscientious and extremely experienced. At 55 years old, he has spent more than 35 years of his career in computer engineering. The fact that John has always followed closely all the developments that have been made in this field allows his clients to fully benefit from his expertise.
Originally from Montreal, Canada, John became passionate about computers from a young age. “As a teenager, I was already drawn to the technical side of things,” he confides. “I wanted to understand how things work, computers and cars also. I was also a big fan of science fiction, especially Star Trek, and curious about all the gadgets they had invented.” With a degree in computer science, he started his first job at 18 where he could satisfy his hunger for technology. As a member of a customer support team, he was called to the rescue to fix his client’s computers when they broke down. He fulfilled this position in several different companies over a period of nearly 20 years.
It was therefore time for him to change horizons. So it was in 2000 that he decided to change both country, by going to live in the United States, and job, by becoming a sales engineer. “I liked my job but it was missing something,” he explains. “I was no longer content just helping my customers occasionally but I wanted to help them on a long term basis by recommending which material or software to buy.” This new position suited John perfectly. Thanks to his technological experience and his good listening skills, he quickly gained his clients trust and brought in lots of new customers.
John has been working at Scality for two years now where his experience is greatly valued. His coworkers know that they can count on him at all times. For example, when one of the sales engineers left, he helped the remaining two members of the team enormously. “For several months John made a huge effort to ensure the success of the company whilst also training a new sales engineer,” testifies one of his colleagues. “It was exemplary.”
Outside of work, John likes to have a bit of peace and quiet. “There are a lot of young people at Scality and it’s very exciting and motivating to work with them,” he admits. “But sometimes it can be a bit tiring to keep up the pace.” On weekends, he enjoys family time with his wife and daughter, tinkering with his classic 1993 Porsche or time traveling by watching 1960’s Star Trek episodes.
